Very repetitive and dull. There are interesting passages only they are few and far between as the Maharishi keeps repeating himself about infusing your mind with Being and accomplishing this through Transcendental Meditation. I read the first 150 pages straight through and then skimmed through the rest considering there was and so much filler. I ordinarily volition read a book all the way through no matter what, but this was an exception due to everything I already mentioned.

The Science of Being and Art of Living describes the Ultimate Life that can be lived. The final chapters talk over the multiple paths available to Divine Living. No one path is ameliorate than another, merely each person is most suited to a particular path.

An excellent volume. I know that it has been translated into many languages, then is available to many readers or different cultures.

It felt really good to read this book. It is a lot to call back about, with concepts that are new to me, and then I read it advisedly. I believe I will read it again in the future. I've been trying the meditation (using my own mantra), and it does help me calm down. The letters in this book are beautiful. We demand more than goodness in the globe. "The purpose of individual life is as well the purpose of the life of the entire cosmos. "The purpose of individual life is also the purpose of the life of the entire cosmos. The purpose of cosmos is expansion of happiness which is fulfilled through the process of cosmic development. The significance and purpose of individual life is the same as that of the cosmos. The difference lies in the scale.

The individual life is the basic unit of life in the cosmos. Evolution of the creation is basically served past the evolution of the individual life. Thus, if the purpose of individual life is served, the purpose of cosmic life is also served spontaneously and simultaneously to that degree and on that scale.

If one has fulfilled the purpose of his own life, he has done his all-time to serve the catholic purpose.

If one is not happy, one has lost the very purpose of life. If ane is not constantly developing his intelligence, power, creativity, peace, and happiness, then he has lost the very purpose of life. Life is not meant to be lived in dullness, idleness, and suffering; these do non belong to the essential nature of life.

Life is dynamic, not static. It is energetic, progressing, evolving, developing through activity and multiplying itself. The nature and purpose of life is progress, evolution, activity, and improvement" (64).

"It is said that poets and artists have created their inspiring literature and art nether tension. All such statements come up from ignorance and from an inability to release tensions" (66).

"Another aspect of the art of action is the skill in action. Skill in action means that the doer gains great pleasance out of the activity but, at the aforementioned time, remains free from the binding influence of the activeness and from the bounden influence of its fruits. The skill in action is that the mind of the doer is placed on the level of the bliss and the unlimited creative intelligence of the Being so that it remains contented all the fourth dimension, does more than work and accomplishes more in the day-to-solar day life. By 'more' we hateful a more efficient and greater amount of work for improve and more results. If this is performed while the doer remains in freedom, information technology is the skill in action or the art of activeness" (150).

"If someone makes an ill-humored remark, a joyful mind that is fully developed and total of love and contentment responds to information technology with forgiveness. The joyful man does not mind the wrong, because his is a strong heed. A strong listen has the ability of tolerance; a weak mind takes upon itself all the insult and ill-sense of humor of the utterance.

Another point may be made in this connection: If someone has already had doubts regarding another human being'south behavior, even if that human being expresses something of dearest and joy the agnostic keeps on having doubts considering his doubts were present before the chat fifty-fifty started. So a doubting or unkind mind, even if there take been reasons for the doubts in the by, fails to savor the joyfulness and sincerity of the other. Thus, it is not the present beliefs of the man that is causing the other to be doubtful; rather information technology is the state of his own listen" (182).

"This is the fine art of behavior. If someone has done u.s. an injustice, nosotros practice not harbor it or think nearly it. Perhaps it was a mistake. If nosotros permit information technology to affect our future deportment toward him, we are non giving him the opportunity to amend in his relations with usa, and we also suffer. Even if he *does* harbor ill-feelings toward usa, we will benefit him and ourselves if we nonetheless carry toward him with love and tolerance. In this way, we aid the atmosphere to improve, and, with an improved atmosphere, we are meliorate served" (183).

Patently there is a practiced bargain of thought and personal reflection that goes into a book like this. Information technology has turned me on to several different ways to take an opinion, which is what I really need. Inner harmony, and balance with ones self is the core of the idea. And, it is a good idea, taught through the utilise of transcendental meditation. TM as information technology is otherwise noted, was my original interest in this book, and it requires taking classes to learn the underground chant and meditation process.
As the volume continues from page 1 until the end, almost every thought is ended with, " .... and through transcendental meditation you will be able to ...." Virtually half way through I plant myself laughing at this and started to wonder if this is an Amway product. This is when I decided to wait into classes, AND how much??? Well, it starts at $2500. I read many mixed reviews, and so I've decided to persue other meditation interests.
The volume and ideas are good, it just begins to feel like a sales manuel subsequently awhile

Like the old days when you had to pay gold to the church to save your soul, apparently the only mode to get in touch with Being according to Mararishi Mahesh Yogi is to pay for a TM form and get a secret word to meditate on. Yeh I know, Mia Farrow... But even if the Maharishi got a bad rap & deserved it or not this book is rather important because he sets out to show how yous tin utilise a simple technique and notice inner happiness and quiet. Despite agreeing with the primal philosophies present here, I plant Science of Being to exist a job. There are some quotable and applicable analogies scattered throughout, but on the whole it just felt exhausting. There are a lot of created ideas to justify the platonic, and there isn't much depth on how to actually practice transcendental meditation.
